A watercolor painter, illustrator and writer, Dorice Stancher is a versatile and insightful artist who captures the true essence of her animal subjects. As a multi-titled AKC and CKC conformation and performance competitor she understands the deep communication and understanding between owners and their dogs. Her works express the beauty and lightheartedness of dogs and their owners with a sincere and thoughtful touch.
Her early training was with noted sculptor and painter Anthony Triano, whose expressive and joyful style greatly influenced her approach to art. She continued her education with renowned watercolor artist Edwin Havis and art historian Petra Chu. As her style evolved she was further influenced and trained by children’s book illustrator, Lena Erlandsson Shiffman and Doris Etlinger McFadden.
A resident of New Jersey, her works are in private collections of many residents in Bergen and Passaic County including Gregg and Cathy Palesky owners of the Vin-Laur Racing Stable which commissioned a large portrait of their foundation broodmare. Her works have also appeared in the AKC Gazette, The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club of America (SCWTCA) “Benchmarks”, The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Association of Canada (SCWTAC) “Wags” Ms. Stancher designed the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier booth for the AKC Meet the Breeds earning Second Place in the Terrier Category. The national club also commissioned illustrations to be used at their Regional Specialty.
Ms. Stancher also received the prestigious AKC Canine Good Citizen Award as part of the Dog Writer’s Association of America (DWAA) Awards Banquet for her writing. Her work has been featured in the “AKC Family Dog” and the “AKC Gazette” where she serves as the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier breed columnist.
